Basic settings

Some of the following settings are required after connecting and positioning your speakers, while others will make operations easier.

You can also set following speakers setting using the choice menu except “EX/ES,” “PHASE” and “M.OUT” (see pages 55 and 56).

Operating procedure

Before you start, remember...

There is a time limit in doing the following steps. If the setting is canceled before you finish, start from step 1 again.

“SETTING” appears on the display.

Each time you press SETTING/ADJUST, the function for the button changes as follow.

2Press Cursor /5 repeatedly to select the item you want to set while “SETTING” appears on the display.

Each time you press the button, the item shown on the display changes as follow:

3Press Cursor 3/2 repeatedly to select the appropriate setting for the item.

Your setting is stored.

Setting speaker sizes

—FRNT SP (front speaker), CNTR SP (center speaker), SURR SP (surround speaker),

BACK SP (surround back speaker)

Select the sizes for each speaker.

LARGE :Select when the cone speaker size is larger than 12 cm.

SMALL :Select when the cone speaker size is smaller than 12 cm.

NO :(Only for “BACK SP”) Select when no speaker is connected.

CAUTION:

When using the supplied speakers, select “SMALL” for each. Selecting “LARGE” will damage the speakers.

NOTES:

If you have selected “SMALL” for the front speakers, you cannot select “LARGE” for the center, surround, and surround back speakers.

If you have selected “SMALL” for the surround speakers, you cannot select “LARGE” for the surround back speaker.

Selecting the channel number to reproduce multi-channel digital software—EX/ES

You can select 5.1-channel or 6.1-channel reproduction to play back multi-channel (more than 5.1-channel) digital software when the size of the surround back speaker is set to “LARGE” or “SMALL” (see the left). “AUTO” is initial setting.

Select one of the following settings.

AUTO :Select to reproduce signal originally recorded.

When playing back Dolby Digital EX software (bearing

the mark ), “DOLBY D EX (Dolby Digital EX)” is activated using the surround back speaker.

When playing back Dolby Digital 5.1-channel software, “DOLBY D (Dolby Digital)” is activated without using the surround back speaker.

When playing back DTS-ES Discrete software (bearing

the mark ), “ES DSCRETE (DTS-ES Discrete)” is activated using the surround back speaker.

When playing back DTS-ES Matrix software (bearing

the mark ), “ES MATRIX (DTS-ES Matrix)” is activated using the surround back speaker.

When playing back DTS Digital Surround 5.1-channel software, “DTS (DTS Digital Surround)” is activated without using the surround back speaker.

ON :Select to activate 6.1-channel reproduction using the surround back speaker.

When playing back Dolby Digital EX software, “DOLBY D EX (Dolby Digital EX)” is activated using the surround back speaker.

When playing back Dolby Digital 5.1-channel software, “DOLBY D EX (Dolby Digital EX)” is activated using the surround back speaker. Surround back channel is reproduced from surround signal.

When playing back DTS-ES Discrete software, “ES DSCRETE (DTS-ES Discrete)” is activated using the surround back speaker.

When playing back DTS-ES Matrix software, “ES MATRIX (DTS-ES Matrix)” is activated using the surround back speaker.

When playing back DTS Digital Surround 5.1-channel software, “DTS + NEO:6” is activated using the surround back speaker. Surround back channel is

reproduced from surround signal.

OFF :Select to activate 5.1-channel reproduction without using the surround back speaker.

When playing back Dolby Digital EX software or DTS- ES software, the surround back signal is output from the surround speakers mixed with the surround signals.

When playing back Dolby Digital or DTS Digital Surround 5.1-channel software, conventional “DOLBY D (Dolby Digital)” or “DTS (DTS Digital Surround)” is activated.
