13 RATING: Press SELECT to set the Rating. DVD Rating (also called Parental Control) allows
parents to stop the playback of certain DVDs they deem unsuitable for their children. Most
DVDs are encoded with a rating level and if the rating level of the disc is higher than the
preset level, playback is prohibited unless a password is entered. The DCP501 cannot
prevent the playback of DVD titles that do not have a rating level encoded onto the disc,
regardless of the desired rating level setting on the DCP501.
DVDs use a rating system consisting of eight rating levels. The MPAA rating system is
shown in the list below. The factory setting is 8 which allows all DVDs to be played.
MPAA Rating “G— General”: Level 1
MPAA Rating “PG—Parental Guidance”: Level 3
MPAA Rating “PG13—Parental Guidance and 13 years old”: Level 4
MPAA Rating “R— Restricted”: Level 6
MPAA Rating “NC17—from 17 years old”: Level 7
