Connecting an RS-232 Interface
This connection is made directly from the scanner cradle to the host computer.

RS-232 Direct Connection
1. Attach the modular connector of the RS-232 interface cable to the cable interface port on the scanner
cradle.(See Connecting the Cradle on page 1-4 .
2. Connect the other end of the RS-232 interface cabl e to the serial port on the host.
3. Connect the power supply to the serial connector end of the RS-232 interface cable, then plug the power
supply to an appropriate outlet, or connect an external power supply to the cradle.
4. Ensure that all connections are secure.
5. Pair the scanner to the cradle by scanning the bar code on the cradle.
6. Select the RS-232 host type by scanning the appropriate bar code from the RS-232 Host Types section on
page 6-6.
7. To modify any other parameter options, scan the appropriate bar codes in this chapter.

NOTE Interface cables vary depending on configuration . The connectors illustrated in Figure 6-1 are examples
only. The co nnectors may be different from those illustrated, but the steps to connect the scanner cradle
remain the same.
Disconnect the power supply before changing host cables or the scanner may not recognize the new host.
