Slope Operation:

Slopesarea majorfactor relatedtoloss ofcontroland
tip-overaccidentswhichcanresultin severeinjuryor
death.Allslopesrequireextracaution. If youcannot
backupthe slope or if youfeel uneasyon it, do notmow
it.
Foryoursafety,usethe slopegaugeincludedas partof
thismanualto measureslopesbeforeoperatingthisunit
ona slopedor hillyarea. Ifthe slope is greaterthan15
degreesasshownon theslopegauge, do notoperate
thisunit onthat areaor seriousinjurycould result.
DO:
1. Mowupand downslopes,notacross.Exercise
extremecautionwhenchangingdirectiononslopes.
2. Watchforholes, ruts,bumps, rocks,orother hidden
objects.Uneventerraincouldoverturnthemachine.
Tallgrasscanhide obstacles.
3. Useslow speed.Choosea low enoughspeed
settingsothat youwill not haveto stopor shift while
onthe slope.Tiresmaylosetractionon slopeseven
thoughthebrakesarefunctioningproperly.Always
keepmachineingear whengoingdownslopesto
takeadvantageofenginebrakingaction.
4. Followthemanufacturer'srecommendationsfor
wheelweightsorcounterweightstoimprovestability.
5. Useextracare withgrasscatchersorotherat-
tachments.Thesecanchangethestabilityof the
machine.
6. Keepall movementonthe slopesslowand gradual.
Donot makesuddenchangesin speedor direction.
Rapidengagementorbrakingcouldcausethefront
ofthe machineto lift and rapidlyflip overbackwards
whichcouldcauseseriousinjury.
7. Avoidstartingor stoppingona slope.If tires lose
traction,disengagetheblade(s)andproceedslowly
straightdowntheslope.

Do Not:

1. Do not turn on slopesunlessnecessary;then,turn
slowlyandgraduallydownhill,ifpossible.
2. Do not mowneardrop-offs,ditchesor embankments.
Themowercouldsuddenlyturnoverif awheel is over
theedgeof a cliff, ditch,or ifan edgecavesin.
3. Do nottry to stabilizethe machineby puttingyourfoot
onthe ground.
4. Do not usea grasscatcher onsteep slopes.
5. Do not mowonwet grass. Reducedtractioncould
causesliding.
6. Do not shiftto neutraland coastdownhill.Over-speed-
ingmaycausethe operatortolosecontrol ofthe
machineresultinginseriousinjuryor death.
7. Do nottow heavypull behindattachments(e.g.loaded
dumpcart,lawn roller,etc.)on slopesgreaterthan
5degrees.Whengoingdown hill,the extraweight
tendsto pushthetractorand maycauseyou toloose
control.(e.g.tractormayspeedup, brakingandsteer-
ingabilityare reduced,attachmentmayjack-knifeand
causetractortooverturn).

Towing:

1. Towonlywith a machinethathas a hitchdesignedfor
towing.Donot attachtowedequipmentexceptat the
hitchpoint.
2. Followthe manufacturersrecommendationfor weight
limitsfor towedequipmentandtowingon slopes.
3. Neverallowchildrenor othersin oron towedequip-
ment.
4. Onslopes, theweightof thetowedequipmentmay
causelossof tractionandlossof control.
5. Travelslowlyandallowextradistanceto stop.
6. Do not shiftto neutraland coastdownhill.
