Cutting Blades ff
WARNING: Be sure to shut
the engineoff, remove ignition
key,disconnect the spark plug
wire(s) and groundagainst the
engine to prevent unintended
starting before removing the cut-
ting blade(s) for sharpening or
replacement. Protect your hands
by using heavy gloves or a rag to
grasp the cutting blade.
WARNING: Periodically inspect
the blade spindles for cracks or
damage, especially if you strike a
foreign object. Replace immedi-
atdy ifdamaged.
Thebladesmaybe removedasfollows.
1. Removethedeckfrombeneaththe tractor,(referto
Cutting Deck Removal) thengently flip thedeck
overtoexposeits underside.
2. Placea blockof wood betweenthecenterdeckhous-
ingbaffleand the cuttingbladeto act asa stabilizer.

3. Usea 15/16"wrenchto removethehex flangenut
thatsecuresthebladeto the spindleassembly.See
Figure24.
4. Toproperlysharpenthecuttingblades,removeequal
amountsofmetalfromboth endsofthe bladesalong
thecuttingedges,parallelto thetrailingedge,at a
250to300angle.
IMPORTANT:Ifthecuttingedgeof thebladehas already
beensharpenedtowithin1 5/8" fromtheedge,or ifany
metalseparationispresent,replacethebladeswith new
ones.SeeFigure25.
Itis importantthat eachcuttingblade edge beground
equallytomaintainproperbladebalance.
Whenreplacingtheblade,be sureto installthe blade
withthe sideof theblade marked"Bottom"(or with
apart numberstampedinit) facingthe groundwhen
themoweris in the operatingposition.

iMPORTANT:Usea torquewrenchto tightentheblade
spindlehexflangenutto between70foot-poundsand90
foot-pounds.
Fuses
• A fuseis installedin your tractor'swiringharnessto
protectthetractor'selectricalsystemfromdamage
causedbyexcessiveamperage.
• If theelectricalsystemdoes notfunction,or your
tractor'senginewillnot crank,first checkto be certain
thatthe fusehasnotblown.
Itcan eitherbefoundunderthe hoodmountedbehind
thetop of thedash panelon thesupportbar, or under
theseat mountedto theinsideof thetractorframe
nexttothe batterytray.
,__ Alwaysuse a fuse with the same
amperage capacity for replace-
ment.
