2. Be familiarwithall controlsandtheir properoperation.
Knowhowto stopthe machineanddisengagethem
quickly.

seriouspersonalinjury.
7. Planyourmowingpatterntoavoid dischargeof
materialtowardroads,sidewalks,bystandersand the
like.Also,avoiddischargingmaterialagainstawall or
obstructionwhichmaycausedischargedmaterialto
ricochetbacktowardtheoperator.
8. Alwayswearsafetyglassesor safetygogglesduring
operationandwhileperforminganadjustmentor
repairtoprotectyoureyes.Thrownobjects which
ricochetcancauseseriousinjuryto theeyes.
9. Wearsturdy,rough-soledworkshoesandclose-fitting
slacksandshirts. Loosefittingclothesandjewelry
canbe caughtinmovableparts.Neveroperatethis
machineinbarefeet or sandals.
10.Beawareofthe mowerandattachmentdischarge
directionanddo not pointit at anyone.Do not operate
themowerwithoutthe dischargecoverorentiregrass
catcherin itsproperplace.
11.Donotput handsor feetnear rotatingpartsor under
thecuttingdeck. Contactwiththeblade(s)can
amputatehandsandfeet.
12.Amissingordamageddischargecovercancause
bladecontactorthrown objectinjuries.
13.Stoptheblade(s)whencrossinggraveldrives,walks,
orroads andwhilenot cuttinggrass.
14.Watchfortrafficwhenoperatingnearor crossing
roadways.Thismachineis not intendedforuse on
anypublicroadway.
15.Donotoperatethe machinewhileunderthe influ-
enceofalcohol ordrugs.
16.Mowonlyin daylightorgood artificiallight.
17.Nevercarrypassengers.
18.Disengageblade(s)beforeshiftingintoreverse.
Backupslowly.Alwayslookdown andbehindbefore
andwhilebackingto avoida back-overaccident.
19.Slowdownbeforeturning.Operatethemachine
smoothly.Avoiderraticoperationandexcessive
speed.
20.Disengageblade(s),setparkingbrake,stopengine
andwaituntil theblade(s) cometoa completestop
beforeremovinggrasscatcher,emptyinggrass,
uncloggingchute,removinganygrassor debris,or
makinganyadjustments.
21.Neverleavearunningmachineunattended.Always
turnoff blade(s),placetransmissioninneutral,set
parkingbrake,stopengineand removekeybefore
dismounting.
22.Useextracarewhen loadingorunloadingthe
machineintoa trailerortruck. Thisunit shouldnot
bedrivenup or downramp(s),becausethe unit
couldtipover,causingseriouspersonalinjury.The
unitmustbe pushedmanuallyon ramp(s)toload or
unloadproperly.
23.Mufflerandenginebecomehotand cancausea
burn.Donot touch.
24.Checkoverheadclearancescarefullybeforedriving
underlowhangingtreebranches,wires,dooropen-
ingsetc.,wherethe operatormaybe struckor pulled
fromthe unit,whichcouldresult inseriousinjury.
25.Disengageallattachmentclutches,depressthe
brakepedalcompletelyandshiftinto neutralbefore
attemptingtostartengine.
26.Yourmachineisdesignedtocut normalresidential
grassofa height no morethan 10".Do notattemptto
mowthroughunusuallytall,drygrass (e.g.,pasture)
orpiles ofdry leaves.Drygrass or leavesmay
contacttheengineexhaustand/orbuild up onthe
mowerdeckpresentingapotentialfire hazard.
27.Useonlyaccessoriesandattachmentsapprovedfor
thismachinebythe machinemanufacturer.Read,
understandandfollowallinstructionsprovidedwith
theapprovedaccessoryorattachment.
28.Dataindicatesthatoperators,age60 yearsand
above,areinvolvedina largepercentageof riding
mower-relatedinjuries.Theseoperatorsshould
evaluatetheirabilitytooperatethe ridingmower
safelyenoughtoprotectthemselvesandothersfrom
seriousinjury.
