When you set the POWER/LOCK switch to the ON position, “PLEASE WAIT” flashes on the display.

When you set the POWER/LOCK switch to the ON position, “INSERT CARD” flashes on the display for 2 seconds. Pressing any button with no SmartMedia card inserted causes “INSERT CARD” to appear again.
Push the SmartMedia card fully into position.

•SmartMedia cards are precision devices. Never force the cards when inserting them, or subject them to sharp blows.
•Avoid handling and storing SmartMedia cards in a hot, damp environment.
•Do not touch the contact area (gold electrodes) of the SmartMedia card with bare hands. If a SmartMedia card gets dirty, wipe it with a soft, dry cloth.
•SmartMedia cards may be vulnerable to electrostatic data corruption. When carrying a SmartMedia card, put it in its case.
Remember to back up data from SmartMedia cards to a PC or other storage medium from time to time (☞ P.47).
•Corrupted, lost, or erased data cannot be
