Downmix
Switch the downmix system for playing back multi-channel
surround sound.
≥When “Dolby D/Dolby D +/Dolby TrueHD” or “DTS/DTS-HD”
is set to “Bitstream”, there are no downmix effects for the
outputted audio.
≥The audio will be outpu t in “Stereo” in the followi ng cases:
jAVCHD playback
jPlayback of secondary audio (including the button click
sound)
Status Messages
Choose whether to show status messages automatically.
On-screen Language
Choose the language for these menus and on-screen
messages.

TV Aspect
“TV Aspect” operates on the screen of the unit o r the
connected TV.
To view an image connected to a 4:3 TV:
To view an image on the unit or connected to a 16:9
widescreen TV:

When connected to equi pment that does not su pport the
virtual surround function.
!Surround encoded:
When connected to equi pment that supports th e virtual

jIf there is no operation for 10minutes or more, DIRECT
NAVIGATOR screen switches to FUNCTION MENU
screen automatically.
jWhile playing and pausin g, etc., this function i s not
available.
jAs for Music (CD-DA, MP3), regar dless of the setting, if
there is no operation fo r 2 minutes, DIRECT
NAVIGATOR screen switches to the other states
automatically.
jWhen playing the 4:3 image, t he masked-off area on the
screen become black.
[Only when connecting with an HDMI ca ble, “TV Aspect”
(>right) is set to “16:9” and “HDMI Resolution”
(>right) is set to any mode other than“480p”.]

TV Aspect / HDMI Function Set tings!4:3 Pan & Scan:
Video recorded for a wide screen is played as Pa n & Scan
(unless prohibited by the p roducer of the disc). When
playing BD-Video, video is output as “4:3 Letterbox”.
!4:3 Letterbox:
Video recorded for a wide screen is played in th e letterbox
style.
!16:9:
Video recorded for 4:3 aspe ct screen is displayed a s a 4:3
ratio image in the cente r of the screen.
!16:9 Full:
Video recorded for 4:3 as pect screen is display ed as a
horizontally stretche d 16:9 image.
HDMI Resolution*
The items supported by the conn ec te d d ev ic es ar e i n dicat e d
on the screen as “¢”. When any item without “¢” is
selected, the images may be distorted.
* In this unit, a P4HD (>5 3) video processor is us ed to
provide video of optimal resolution to the connected TV.
≥If the image is distorted, set to “480p” or set again
correctly.
!Auto:
Automatically selects the output resol ution best suited to
the connected televisio n (1080p, 1080i, 720p o r 480p).

jTo enjoy high definition video up-converted to 1080p, you
need to connect the unit directly to 1080p compatible
HDTV (High Definition Television). If this unit is connected
to an HDTV through other equipment, it must also be
1080p compatible.
24pOutput
[BD-V] [DVD-V]
When this unit is connected to a T V supporting 1080/24p
output using an HDMI ca ble, movies and other m aterial
recorded at 24p are output at 24p.
≥When playing DVD-Video, set to “On” an d the n al so set
“24p” in “Video” (>27) to “On”.
≥When BD-Video images other than 24p are played,
images are output at 60p.
