1 Press [CLOCK/TIMER] to select the timer function.

The play/record timer

You can set the timer to come on at a certain time to wake you up (play timer) or to record a radio station or from the external source (record timer).

The play and record timers cannot be used together.

Preparation

1Switch on the unit and set the clock. (Setting the time, page 32)

2For the play timer

Prepare the desired source (CD, SD, tape, radio, or external), and set the volume.

For the record timer

– To record to SD:

Check the card’s write-protect switch (To protect your data, page 7) and insert the card (page 8).

To record to cassette tape:

Check the cassette’s erasure prevention tabs (Erasure prevention, page 25) and insert the tape (page 19).

– Tune to the radio station (page 22) or select the external source (page 35).

Every time you press the button:

2Within 10 seconds:

Press [u 2/REW, i 1/FF] to set the day and

press [LIST/ENTER].

Every time you press the button:

: For the play timer only

3ON time setting

Press [u 2/REW, i 1/FF] to set the start time and press [LIST/ENTER].

4OFF time setting

Press [u 2/REW, i 1/FF] to set the finish time

and press [LIST/ENTER].

The start and finish times are now set.

5Press [z PLAY/REC] to display the timer indicator.

z PLAY: To turn the play timer on

z REC-SD: To turn the record timer on (Recording to SD)

z REC-TAPE: To turn the record timer on (Recording to cassete tape) (The indicator doesn’t appear if the start and finish times or the clock have not been set.)

6Press [^] to turn the unit off.

The unit must be off for the timers to operate.

Play timer: Play will start in the set condition at the set time with volume increasing gradually to the set level.

Record timer: The unit comes on 30 seconds before the set time with the volume muted.

To cancel the timer

Press [z PLAY/REC] to select “TIMER OFF”. (The timer comes on as set if the timer is on.)

To check the settings

Press [CLOCK/TIMER] while the unit is on to select “z PLAY” or “z REC”.

To check the settings while the unit is off

Press [CLOCK/TIMER].

If you use the unit after the timers are set

After using, check that the correct disc, card or tape is loaded before turning the unit off.

Changing the timer settings

(when the unit is on)

To change the play/record times

Do steps 1, 2, 3, 4 and 6. (left)

To change the source or volume

1.Press [z PLAY/REC] to clear the timer indicator from the display.

2.Make changes to the source or volume. (left, Preparation)

3.Do steps 5 and 6. (left)

To change the timer

Press [z PLAY/REC] to select the desired timer.

Every time the button is pressed:

Note

If you turn the unit off and on again while a timer is functioning, the finish time setting will not be activated.

If you selected AUX as the source, when the timer comes on, the unit turns on and engages “AUX” as the source. If you want to playback or record from a connected unit, set that unit’s timer to the same time. (See the connected unit’s operating instructions.)

Use this when you are going to sleep or any other time you would prefer to dim the display panel.

Press and hold [DISPLAY, –DIMMER].

To return to the original brightness, press and hold [DISPLAY, –DIMMER] again.
