Using both DHCP and a fixed IP simultaneously
Using the Alternate Configuration, you can set both automatic and fixed IP addresses and then you can select to use either of them to connect to the Internet.
1 ▶ For Windows 7
Click Start > Control Panel > Network and Internet > Network and Sharing Center and click on Change adapter settings in the left menu pane.
▶For Windows Vista
Click Start > Control Panel > Network and Internet > Network and Sharing Center and click Manage Network Connections in the left pane.
▶For Windows XP
Click Start > Control Panel > Network and
Internet Connections > Network Connection > Local Area Connection by using the right button of the touch pad and click Properties.

3 For Windows 7/Vista, select Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) from the Networking tab and select Properties.
For Windows XP, select Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and click Properties.
4 Select the Alternate Configuration tab, select User configured, fill in the corresponding fields and click the OK button.
