RJ-45 Connector

A connector for twisted-pair wiring.

Straight-through Port

An RJ-45 port which does not cross the receive and transmit signals internally so it can be connected with straight-through twisted-pair cable to any device having a crossover port. Also referred to as a “Daisy-Chain” port.

Switched Ports

Ports that are on separate collision domains or LAN segments. Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)

Protocol suite that includes TCP as the primary transport protocol, and IP as the network layer protocol.

UTP

Unshielded twisted-pair cable.
