Network-dependent features

SMS and EMS messaging

TheT68i is capable of sending and receiving SMS
and EMS messages,and linked messages.
With the ShortMessage Service, a user
can sendtext messages containing up to
160 charactersto and fromGSM mobile
stations
With the linked SMS, the user can link up
to 10 SMS messagestogether to create a
longer message(network-dependent ser-
vice)
A Service Centre(SC) acts as a a storage and
forwardingcentre. The T68i also supports using
SMS as a bearertype for connecting to WAP.
SMS consistsof two basic services:
Mobile OriginatedSMS
•MobileTerminatedSMS
For MobileOriginated SMS, an SMS message is
sentfrom a Mobile Station to the SMS-C where it
is forwardedto its destination. This can be
another MobileStation, or a terminal in the fixed
network.
A MobileTerminated SMS is when an SMS
message isforwarded from the SMS-C to a
MobileStation. When the Mobile Station receives
the message,it returns a delivery report saying
the transferwas successful.

Fixed dialling and Restricted calls

Fora company or an organization, it can be useful
to restrict phone calls. Fixed Dialling allows the
user to preseta number of digits, for example
areacodes. This restricts the user to making calls
only to numbers which use the preset digits as
leading digits. Fixed Dialling makes use of t he
PIN2, andit requires fixed dial fields on the SIM
card.
The Restrict Calls service allows the user to block
outgoingor incoming calls in certain situations,
for exampleinternational calls.
