8 − Mastering and CD recorder

Checking the master

To check the recorded master track, use the master

check mode.

After ending mixdown mode, press the MIXDOWN/

MASTERING key again to enter the master check mode

and open the MASTER CHECK screen. The MASTER

CHECK screen shows the song title and the total time.

All monitoring is now from the STEREO selection

only. The master track playback sound is not affected

by fader movements or other mixer operations, includ-

ing new assignments.

No faders or other mixer controls (including assignment)

have any effect. The only possible control of the monitor

volume is through the MONITOR LEVEL controls.

The transport controls work in the following way:

PLAY

• plays back from the current position to the end of

the master track.

REW

• and F FWD keys rewind and fast-forward as

normal, but the speed does not appear on the screen.

Press the

• STOP key to stop playback

Recording is disabled.

•

All location functions are disabled.

•

Jog, varispeed, SSA, repeat, etc. are disabled.

•

TIP

When playing the master track, the playback sign al

is output from not only the MONITOR and P HONES

jacks, but also from the STEREO (and DIG ITAL

OUTPUT) jacks. Thus, duri ng a master check, the

mixdown signal can be recorded to an ext ernal MD,

cassette or other media.

Exiting master check mode

Press the

HOME

key or the

NO/EXIT

key to end the mas-

ter check and return to the usua l Home screen.

Press the HOME key or the NO/EXIT key to return to the

Home screen.

Mastering procedures

Mastering is conducted using the following process.

Step 1: Start mastering mode

When the MASTER CHECK screen is open a nd the transport

is stopped, press the MIXDOWN/MASTERING key while

holding down the SHIFT key to start master ing mode. The

MASTERING TOOL screen opens and the MIXDOWN/

MASTERING key blinks.

Ending mixdown mode

Finishing the master track

This unit has mastering tools speci fically for the master

track. The overall sound pressure and sound qu ality can

be adjusted using the compressor, EQ and noise shaper.

By putting this unit in masteri ng mode, you can use its

mastering tools to finish (“master ”) the master track.
