Lesson 7: Resizing, repositioning, and hiding windows

Notice the taskbar now has two buttons on it—one for

Paint and one for Windows® Explorer.

4Click the Paint button on the taskbar.

The operating system displays the Paint program.

The operating system places the active window on top of

other windows on the desktop unless you have selected a

different display option. You can move back and forth

between the two programs by clicking each button

alternately.

Lesson 7: Resizing, repositioning, and hiding windows

If you have followed the lessons in this chapter, you now

have a screen with several program windows open. You can

organize these windows by resizing and repositioning

windows so that you can see more than one of them at a time.

You can also hide windows by removing them from the

desktop without actually closing your document or program.

Your program performs an illegal operation. Problems when you turn on the computer The computer will not start. The computer starts but, when you press a key, nothing happens. The computer is not accessing the hard disk or the external diskette drive. The AC adapter and power cable work correctly, but the battery will not charge. The battery appears not to power the computer for as long as it usually does. Keyboard problems The keyboard produces unexpected characters. Display problems The display is blank. The screen does not look right. The built-in screen flickers. The display mode is set to Simultaneous and the external display device does not work. Disk drive problems You are having trouble accessing a disk, or one or more files appear to be missing. Error-checking Your hard disk seems very slow. Your data files are damaged or corrupted. Some programs run correctly but others do not. A diskette will not go into the external diskette drive. The computer displays the Non-system disk or disk error DVD-ROM or DVD-ROM/CD-RW drive problems You cannot access a disc in the drive. You press the disc eject button, but the drive tray does not slide out. Some discs run correctly, but others do not. WinDVD problems: general issues WinDVD controls are disabled. Playback performance is poor. The Root or Title menu does not open. WinDVD performance decreases after making a system change. Slow playback performance. WinDVD problems: content issues WinDVD will not function properly with debug software installed. Modem problems The modem will not receive or transmit properly. The modem is on, set up properly and still will not transmit or receive data. Develop good computing habits Save your work frequently.
