Playing DVDs

You can open a shortcut menu, by positioning the cursor over

the WinDVD window, other than over the control panel, then

clicking the secondary button. The shortcut menu contains

the same features as the control panel, plus the enable caption

feature, which displays captions for the hearing impaired.

You can also create a playlist, to customize the order in which

the DVD content plays (see “Creating playlists” on

page 209). Once a DVD is playing, the counter displays the

current chapter and elapsed time, in hours:minutes:seconds

format.

From the WinDVD control panel, you can open an expanded

control panel by clicking the Expanded view button. The

expanded control panel contains several advanced features.

explanation of these features.

Using the control panel playback buttons

Once you have inserted a DVD and started WinDVD, you are

ready to play the disc. Using the control panel, you can play a

DVD from the beginning, or move to a desired location then

begin playing.

Your program performs an illegal operation. Problems when you turn on the computer The computer will not start. The computer starts but, when you press a key, nothing happens. The computer is not accessing the hard disk or the external diskette drive. The AC adapter and power cable work correctly, but the battery will not charge. The battery appears not to power the computer for as long as it usually does. Keyboard problems The keyboard produces unexpected characters. Display problems The display is blank. The screen does not look right. The built-in screen flickers. The display mode is set to Simultaneous and the external display device does not work. Disk drive problems You are having trouble accessing a disk, or one or more files appear to be missing. Error-checking Your hard disk seems very slow. Your data files are damaged or corrupted. Some programs run correctly but others do not. A diskette will not go into the external diskette drive. The computer displays the Non-system disk or disk error DVD-ROM or DVD-ROM/CD-RW drive problems You cannot access a disc in the drive. You press the disc eject button, but the drive tray does not slide out. Some discs run correctly, but others do not. WinDVD problems: general issues WinDVD controls are disabled. Playback performance is poor. The Root or Title menu does not open. WinDVD performance decreases after making a system change. Slow playback performance. WinDVD problems: content issues WinDVD will not function properly with debug software installed. The computer stops working (hangs) when you insert a PC Card. Hot swapping (removing one PC Card and inserting another without turning the computer off) fails. The system does not recognize your PC Card. A PC Card error occurs. Printer problems The printer will not print. The printer will not print what you see on the screen. Modem problems The modem will not receive or transmit properly. The modem is on, set up properly and still will not transmit or receive data. Develop good computing habits Save your work frequently. On a regular basis, back up the information stored on your hard disk. Read the users guides.
