Lesson 12: Removing objects from the desktop

3Click the Date and Time tab and set the correct month,

year, day, and time.

4Click the Time Zone tab and drop-down list box, and set

your time zone.

5Click OK.

6Close the Control Panel.

Lesson 12: Removing objects from the desktop

Earlier in this tutorial, you created a new icon on the desktop.

Since everything you have done to this point has been just

practice, you may want to return the desktop back to its

original uncluttered state. This lesson explains how to

remove objects from the desktop and introduces the Recycle

Bin.

1Click the New Folder icon you created, drag it until it is

over the Recycle Bin icon and it changes color, then

release the primary button.

The icon disappears, but, with the operating system, it is

not really gone. It is merely set aside in the Recycle Bin

so that you can restore or delete it later.

2Repeat step 1 for any other icons you created during this

tutorial.

Each icon disappears as you drop it on the Recycle Bin.

3Double-click the Recycle Bin icon.

The operating system opens the Recycle Bin window.

Notice that all the icons you dropped on the Recycle Bin

are listed.

Your program performs an illegal operation. Problems when you turn on the computer The computer will not start. The computer starts but, when you press a key, nothing happens. The computer is not accessing the hard disk or the external diskette drive. The AC adapter and power cable work correctly, but the battery will not charge. The battery appears not to power the computer for as long as it usually does. Keyboard problems The keyboard produces unexpected characters. Display problems The display is blank. The screen does not look right. The built-in screen flickers. The display mode is set to Simultaneous and the external display device does not work. Disk drive problems You are having trouble accessing a disk, or one or more files appear to be missing. You press the disc eject button, but the drive tray does not slide out. Some discs run correctly, but others do not. WinDVD problems: general issues WinDVD controls are disabled. Playback performance is poor. The Root or Title menu does not open. WinDVD performance decreases after making a system change. Slow playback performance. WinDVD problems: content issues WinDVD will not function properly with debug software installed. Modem problems The modem will not receive or transmit properly. The modem is on, set up properly and still will not transmit or receive data. Develop good computing habits Save your work frequently. On a regular basis, back up the information stored on your hard disk. Read the users guides.
