Lesson 11: Setting the date and time

You can view any object’s properties by clicking the object

with the secondary button, then choosing Properties from

the shortcut menu that appears.

The next lesson explains how to set two other properties—the

date and time.

Lesson 11: Setting the date and time

You initially set the computer’s date and time properties

when you turned the computer on for the first time and set up

the operating system.

To change the date and time settings:

1Click Start, then click Control Panel.

The Control Panel window appears.

2Double-click the Date and Time icon.

The operating system displays the Date/Time Properties

dialog box.

HINT: To open the Date and Time Properties dialog box more

quickly, either click the time display on the taskbar with the

secondary button, then click Adjust Date/Time, or double-click the

time display.

Keyboard problems The keyboard produces unexpected characters. Display problems The display is blank. The screen does not look right. The built-in screen flickers. The display mode is set to Simultaneous and the external display device does not work. Disk drive problems You are having trouble accessing a disk, or one or more files appear to be missing. Error-checking Your hard disk seems very slow. Your data files are damaged or corrupted. Some programs run correctly but others do not. A diskette will not go into the external diskette drive. The computer displays the Non-system disk or disk error DVD-ROM or DVD-ROM/CD-RW drive problems You cannot access a disc in the drive. You press the disc eject button, but the drive tray does not slide out. Some discs run correctly, but others do not. WinDVD problems: general issues WinDVD controls are disabled. Playback performance is poor. The Root or Title menu does not open. WinDVD performance decreases after making a system change. Slow playback performance. WinDVD problems: content issues WinDVD will not function properly with debug software installed. The computer stops working (hangs) when you insert a PC Card. Hot swapping (removing one PC Card and inserting another without turning the computer off) fails. The system does not recognize your PC Card. A PC Card error occurs. Printer problems The printer will not print. The printer will not print what you see on the screen. Modem problems The modem will not receive or transmit properly. The modem is on, set up properly and still will not transmit or receive data. Develop good computing habits Save your work frequently.
