Using the RAID-0 or RAID-1 Utility

Creating a new RAID-0 array

Creating a new RAID-0 array

When RAID-0 is configured, the total hard disk capacity will appear to the operating system as twice that of the smaller of the two hard drives in the RAID configuration. For example, when a RAID-0 array is configured with one 40 GB hard disk and one 60 GB hard disk, the computer’s total hard disk will appear to the operating system as 80 GB. You cannot use the remaining 20 GB on the larger hard disk drive.

Before configuring your system for RAID-0, make sure you back up all data on your computer’s hard drives onto another storage media. When a RAID-0 array is created, all data on both your primary and secondary hard disks is erased and cannot be recovered. Toshiba is not responsible for any loss of data on your hard disks.

NOTE

Your computer can only be configured for one type of RAID at

a time. It cannot be configured to use both RAID-0 and RAID-1

simultaneously.

To create a RAID-0 array:

1Plug in the AC adapter and power on the computer. (The computer must be running on power provided by the AC adapter to perform these steps.)

2Insert the Recovery DVD shipped with your computer into the computer’s CD/DVD drive.

3Press F12 to display the boot menu.4Press the right arrow key until the CD icon is highlighted; then, press Enter.
