Operating in Charger Mode
To operate the MS2000 in charger mode from the front panel:
1. Connect AC input power.
House bank charging starts automatically when qualif ied AC power is
connected if the charger is enabled, or the charger is disabled but the Forc e
Charge enable override is On. (See Force Charge on page 324.)
The Echo Charger operates any time it is enabled and the main charger is
enabled and operating in bulk or absorption mode, and the house battery bank
voltage is above 13.2 volts DC.
The house battery bank is charged according to the two-stage or three-
stage formula you have selected on the System Control Panel. (See
Battery Charging Reference for the Main Charger on pageB1 for
more information on two-stage or three-stage charging.)
You can interrupt the charge cycle any time you desir e by disabling the
charger from the System Control Panel or by pressing the Charger Enable
button (on the front panel of the MS2000) so it is no longer illuminated.
To maintain optimal performance in flooded batteries, an occasional
equalize cycle may be required on the house battery only. See Operating
in Equalization Mode on page218.
While the house battery bank is being charged, you can monitor which
stage it is in from the System Control Panel.
To operate the charger with the System Control Panel, refer to Chapter 3,
Configuration.

WARNING: Explosive Gases

Review the Important Safety Instructions on page vii before operating the
inverter/charger. During charging, batteries may generate explosive gases.
Thoroughly ventilate the areas around the batteries and ensure that there are no
sources of flames or spark in the vicinity.
Study all battery manufacturers precautions such as removing or not removing
cell caps while charging and the recommended rates of charge.
Important:
If you are charging a non-sealed battery, ensure there is sufficient
distilled water in each cell. The battery acid should be at the level specified by
the battery manufacturer. This helps prevent over-heating and purges excessive
gases from the cells. Do not overfill. For a battery without cell caps, follow the
manufacturers recharging instruction s carefully.
Important:
The Echo Charger does not operate when the main charger is in Equali ze
mode. Echo Charger operation is suspended in Equalize mode.
