3.2REMOVING THE CHASSIS COVER

This section describes how to remove the ESX chassis cover. The chassis cover must be removed to install a BRIM, set the mode switch bank, or install SIMM memory upgrades.

Do not remove the cover from the ESX when power is applied to the unit. Hazardous voltages are present. While performing this procedure, remove only the screws shown to remove the cover.

The internal components and boards associated with the ESX

!are static sensitive devices. Use the antistatic wrist band and

CAUTION

observe standard antistatic safety procedures when the cover

is removed. Failure to do so could cause damage or severely

limit the life expectancy of the ESX.

To remove the chassis cover, perform the following steps:

1.Disconnect the ESX from the network as follows:

a.Turn off the ESX by disconnecting the power cord from the rear of the ESX.

b.Mark the cables connected to the ESX according to their associated port numbers. This is recommended for ease of reinstallation.

c.Disconnect all network cables attached to the ESX.

2.If the ESX is mounted in a rack, perform the following steps. Otherwise, continue with step 3.
