Advanced Operation

V-CHIP is built into TVs and other video devices to work in conjunction with the TV Parental Guidelines. It electronically reads television-programming ratings and allows parents to block programs they believe are inappropriate for their children.

There are two rating categories in use, TV ratings (pages 53-55) for TV programs and MPAA ratings (pages 51-52) for theatrical movies being broadcast.

The MPAA (Motion Picture Association of America) uses the standard movie ratings.
