58Connecting to a fax machine

IMPORTANT

Check in your fax machine user guide that it is compatible for use with an answering machine.

Most fax machines and modems are designed to work with answering machines so that you can receive both fax and voice calls.

Connecting up

1.Connect your BT Synergy 3505 telephone line cord to the fax machine. The socket is likely to be on the back of the fax machine’s telephone line cord socket (doubler socket) or there may be a separate socket at the side or back of the fax.

Line connection from answer machine.

2.Set your fax machine reception mode to TAD/FAX. (See your fax user guide for instructions).

3.Make sure the answer delay (i.e. the number of rings before your answering machine picks up a call) is always less on the answering machine than the fax machine/fax modem. This means your answering machine will always pick up the call first and switch it to the fax machine if it hears the fax tones.
