Installing Internal Storage Devices

Your Macintosh has five internal drive bays. Three are in the lower part of the computer and two are in front on top. In many configurations, a single hard disk drive occupies a lower bay. One of the upper bays contains a CD or DVD drive, and you can purchase and install an optional Zip drive in the other upper bay.

You can add SCSI and ATA disk drives to the empty lower drive bays.

Drives must meet these specifications:

mWidth: 3.9 inches (102 mm)

mDepth: 5.7 inches (147 mm)

mHeight: 1.0 inches (ATA), 1.6 inches (SCSI)

The computer provides support for the following types of internal storage devices:

mATA devices, including ATA, ATA-2, ATA-3, up to ATA-6 devices

mUltra ATA devices

mUltra-66 ATA devices

mATAPI drives, including CD-ROM, CD-RW, DVD-ROM, DVD-R, and Zip drives

mWide Ultra SCSI devices (requires an additional SCSI PCI card)

mUltra2 and Ultra160 low-voltage differential (LVD) SCSI devices (requires a SCSI PCI card)
