6.4.2 Aspect ratio

Aspect ratios

The standard aspect ratio used in broadcasttelevision is the 4:3 ratio. However, most of the DVD sources use nowadaysthe
widescreen16:9 or even the cinemascope 2.35:1 aspect ratio.
Some DVD sources may even use the anamorphic 16:9 or anamorphic 2.35:1 to take advantage of the higher vertical resolution
offeredby the 4:3 ratio. The “anam orphic”term means that the original widescreen image is squeezed in order to t the 4:3 aspect
ratio.
