Research In Motion recommends that you regularly create and save a backup file on your computer, especially before you update any software. Maintaining a current backup file on your computer might allow you to recover smartphone data if your smartphone is lost, stolen, or corrupted by an unforeseen issue.

My smartphone prompts me to make an emergency call when I type a password

If your BlackBerry smartphone password contains a combination of letters that corresponds to an emergency access number, your smartphone might prompt you to make an emergency call when you type your smartphone password.

To dismiss the prompt to make an emergency call, continue typing your smartphone password.

I can't unlock my smartphone using my smart card

Try the following actions:

Verify that the correct smart card is inserted in the smart card reader.

Verify that the smart card is inserted in the smart card reader correctly.

Verify that you typed the smart card password correctly. You should have received this password when you received your smart card.

If you use a certificate to authenticate your smart card, verify that the certificate isn't revoked or expired.

I can't download a certificate or PGP key from an LDAP-enabled server

Try the following actions:

Verify that your organization permits you to download certificates or PGP keys from an LDAP-enabled server. For more information, contact your administrator.

If you changed the connection type that your BlackBerry smartphone uses to connect to an LDAP-enabled server, try using the default connection type.
