Switching between Metering Modes

You can switch between metering modes to shoot. Evaluative metering is the default mode.

		Appropriate for standard shooting conditions, including backlit scenes.
	Evaluative	The camera divides images into several zones for metering. The camera
		evaluates the complex lighting conditions, such as the position of the

Metering Mode		subject, the brightness, the direct light, and the backlighting, and adjusts
		the settings to the correct exposure for the main subject.
	Center-Weighted	Averages the exposure from the entire image, but places more weight on
		the subject at the center. Use this mode when the subject is backlit or
	Averaging
		surrounded by bright light.
	Center	Meters the area within the spot AE point frame at the center of the LCD
Spot AE Point		monitor.
	AF Point	Meters the spot AF point corresponding to the selected AF frame.

Selecting a Light Metering Option

1	Turn the mode dial to ,				or .
2	In the [ (Rec.)] menu, select [Light
	Metering].
	• See Selecting Menus and Settings (p. 39).
3	Select the [			(Evaluative Metering)] or
	[		(Center-Weighted Averaging)]
	option.
	• The symbol of the selected option will appear
		in the LCD monitor.
4 Press the				button.
