Using a New Dial-Up Connection

A dial-up connection is just what its name implies, you dial a number over a telephone line and connect to a computer at the other end. Note the following important points concerning a dial-up connection.

You must set up an e-mail account with a local service provider in order to send and receive e-mail over a dial-up connection. See Chapter 5 of this User’s Guide for more information about how to make dial-up connection settings.

You need a CompactFlash type modem before you can use a dial-up connection. See the separate Hardware Manual for more information about the type of CompactFlash modem you need.

Your Palm-size PC does not support connection to any Internet service provider (ISP) that requires use of special software or programs.

Your Palm-size PC supports dial-up connection with an Internet service provider (ISP) that uses a POP3 mail server and SMTP mail gateway.

You can use multiple mail services for your mail. You need to specify a name and make the correct settings for each service. The software for doing this comes pre- installed on your Palm-size PC.

To set up a new mail service

1.In Inbox on your Palm-size PC, tap Compose and then Options.

2.On the dialog that appears, tap the Services tab.

3. Tap the Add button to display a service selection dialog.

Internet Mail Service is the initial default for this list.
