Chapter4 Troubleshooting Monitoring Environment
Monitoring Environment
The Cisco AS5350 contains temperature sensors to detect abnormal temperature conditions during
system operation. The th re e l evels o f s ens or detection are as follows:
If the operating temper atu r e o f th e syst em exce ed s 45°C, the system reaches a war ni ng st ate . A
warning message appears on th e consol e. When t he opera ting te mperatu re of t he syst em drops be lo w
45°C, another message is displayed on the console indicating a recovery. At this level of sensor
detection, there is no disruption in system operation.
When the oper at ing temperature of the system con tinues to rise a bove 4 5°C and reaches a
temperature of 60°C, the system reaches a criti cal state. Cisco IOS software gracefully shuts down
the first DFC. If the op er ati ng temperature continue s to be critical after 1 0 m inutes, Cisco IOS
software shuts down anot he r DF C.
Note DFC slot numbering starts from the motherboard and works up from left to right. Slot 0 is
reserved for the moth erbo ar d . Th e DFC s l ot s ar e nu mb er ed seq u en ti all y fr o m 1 to 3 . ( See
Figure 4-2.)

This process is repeat ed at 10 minute inte rval s unti l the f inal DFC is s hut do wn. The consol e disp lays
the slot number of the DFC and the type of DFC that was shut down.
If the operating temperature cools down to 45°C, Cisco IOS software powers on the first DFC,
repeating the process f or e ach D F C at 1 0 min ut e i n ter vals.
When the operating t emperature of the system ri ses above 65°C, Cisco IOS software shuts down all
DFCs immediately.
Serial Ports T0, T1 Flickering Indicates data activity on the serial
ports.
Off The serial port connection is not
transmitting or receiving data.
BITS Port BITS ON Indicates a val id sign al on th e BIT S
port.
