How To Remove
The Traction Drive Belt
If thesnow thrower willnotmove for-
ward, check the traction drive belt for
wear or damage. Ifthe tractiondrive
belt isworn ordamaged, replacethe
belt as follows.
1. Disconnectthe spark plug wire.
plate is propertysecured (see
Figure 30).

2. Remove the auger drive belt. See
"HowTo Remove The Auger Drive
Belt"in the Service And Adjustment
section.
3. Remove the e-ring from one end of
the swing plate axle rod. Remove
the swing plate axle rod to allow
the swing plate to pivotforward (see
Figure29).
4. Remove the traction drive spring.
5, Remove the old traction drive belt
fromthe traction drive pulley and
fromthe engine pulley. Replace
the traction drive belt with an origi-
nal equipment replacement belt
available from aSears service cen-
ter.
6. Install the new traction drive belt
ontothe traction drive pulley and
onto engine pulley.
7. Make surethe traction drive Idler
pulley ispmparly aligned with the
traction drive belt.

NOTE: If the drive will not engage
after the traction drive belt has
been replaced, then check to
make sure that the swing plata is
positioned between the align-
ment tabs.
11.Install and adjustthe auger drive
belt. See "HowTo Remove The Au-
ger Drive Belt"inthe Service And
Adjustmentsection.
12.Adjust the bell guide. See "How To
AdjustThe Belt Guide" in the Ser-
viceAnd Adjustmentsection.
13. Install the bottom panel (see
Figure 27).
14."13ghtenthebolts on each side of
the bottom panel.
8. Attach the traction drive spring.
9. Install the swing plate axle rod and
secure with the e-ring removed
earlier.
10.The bottomof the swing plate must
be positionedbetween the align-
ment tabs. Make sure the swing

15.Install the belt cover.Tightenscrew (see Figure25).
16.Check the adjustmentof the cables.

17.Connect the spark plug wire.
