Engines that are certified to meet the California Air Resources Board (CARB) "her 2
Emission Standards must display information regarding the Emissions Durability Pe-
riodand the Air Index. Sears, Roebuck and Co., U.S.A. makes this informationavail-
able to the consumer on our emission labels.
The Emissions Durability Period describes the number of hoursof actual running
time for which the engine is certified to be emissions compliant, assuming proper
maintenance inaccordance withthe Operating &Maintenance Instructions.The fol-
lowingcategories are used:
Moderate: Engine iscertified to be emissioncompliant for 125hours of actual
engine running time.
Intermediate: Engine iscertifiedto be emission compliant for 250 hoursof actual
engine runningtime.
Extended: Engineis certifiedto be emissioncompiientfor 500 hoursof actual
engine runningtime.
For example, a typical walk-behind lawn mower is used 20 to 25 hours per year.
Therefore, the Emissions Durability Period of an engine w_ an intermediate
rating wouldequate to 10 to 12 years.
The Air Index isa calculated number describing the relative level of emissions for a
specific engine family.The lower theAir Index, the cleaner the engine.This informa-
tion is displayed ingraphical form on the emissions label.

After July 1, 2000 certa_ Sears, Roebuck and CO.,U.S.A. engines will be cert_led to
meet the UnitedStates EnvironmentalPmtentionAgency (USEPA) Phase 2 emission
standards.For Phase2 certified engines, the Emissions Compliance Periodreferred to
onthe EmissionsCompliancelabelindicates the number ofoperating hoursfor which the
enginehas been shownto meet Federal emission requirements.For engines lessthan
225 cc displacement, CategonJC =125 hours, B =250 hours and A=500 hours. For
enginesof 225 ccor more, CategoryC :250 hours,B = 500 hours endA = 1000 hours.

The displacement engines of Model Series 120000 is 206 co.
The displacement engines of Modal Series 200000 is 305 co.
The displacement engines of Modal Series 210000 is 342 co.
