Printing quality

The printed image has gaps or faint areas.

Cause What to do
The print head nozzles are
clogged. Clean the print heads as described in
“Cleaning the Print Heads” on page
10-36.
The paper quality has been
reduced due to age. Use new paper.
The printer driver setti ngs
may not be correct. Select Automatic on the printe r
driver’s Main menu (Windows) or in
the Print dialog box (Macintosh), and
make sure the Media Type setting is
appropriate for the type of paper
loaded in the printer.

The printed image is blurred.

Cause What to do
Your paper is moist or damp. Do not store your paper in a damp or
humid environment. Store the paper
in its original packaging.
The printer driver setti ngs
may not be correct. Select Automatic on the printe r
driver’s Main menu (Windows) or in
the Print dialog box (Macintosh), and
make sure the Media Type setting is
appropriate for the type of paper
loaded in the printer.
The printer driver’s Ink
setting is set to Color even
though the printer is being
used with an empty color ink
cartridge installed.
Select Black as the Ink setting in your
printer driver. See “Printing with an
empty color ink cartridge” on page
9-6.
Replace the color ink cartridge.
