Update ﬁrmware

The ﬁrmware upgrade utility, accessible via the Tools menu, provides a way to replace the ﬁrmware that is coded on the switcher BME 0’s control board without taking the switcher out of service, opening the switcher enclosure, and replacing the ﬁrmware chip.

Update the switcher ﬁrmware as follows:

NThe update ﬁrmware utility is for replacing the ﬁrmware that controls all switcher operation. This is not the window to insert your own HTML pages. See Upload HTML ﬁles to insert custom HTML pages.

NTo prevent operational problems, when a ﬁrmware update is planned, update the ﬁrmware in all BMEs.

1.Visit the Extron web site, www.extron.com, select the CrossPoint/MAV Plus product category, and select the latest ﬁrmware install package (*.exe ﬁle) for download. Note the folder to which you save the ﬁrmware ﬁle.

2.Run the executable (*.exe) ﬁle to decompress the ﬁrmware ﬁle.

3.Start the Matrix Switcher Control Program

4.Connect to the matrix switcher BME to be updated. See Using the software in this chapter, steps 1 through 4, starting on page 5-3.

NThe Ethernet connection is much faster than the RS-232/RS-422 connection. Extron recommends using the Ethernet connection rather than the serial port for ﬁrmware uploads.

NIf the computer that you are using to update the ﬁrmware is connected to the BME via an Ethernet network, each BME must have a unique IP address.

5.Click Tools > Update ﬁrmware. The open ﬁle window appears (ﬁgure 5-7).

6.Navigate to the folder where you saved the ﬁrmware upgrade ﬁle. Select the ﬁle.

NValid ﬁrmware ﬁles must have the ﬁle extension .S19. Any other ﬁle extension is not a ﬁrmware upgrade.

NThe original factory-installed ﬁrmware is permanently available on each matrix switcher BME. If the attempted ﬁrmware upload fails for any reason, the switcher reverts to the factory-installed ﬁrmware.
