With a USB connection and Update Now selected from the Automatic Configuration drop-down menu on the Device Settings tab of the Printing Preferences, a printer communication error occurs.

Bidirectional communication works over the USB port only when the printer installer is used to create an HP DOT4 port. Solution:

Description:

Except for Windows Vista®, the HP DOT4 port should be used with all operating systems, because the Microsoft DOT4 port does not work with the printer.

Solution:

For more information, contact the software vendor.
