7. Connect the Network Cables

Connect the network cables, described under “Cabling Infrastructure”

(page 2-5), from the network devices or your patch panels to the fiber or copper ports on the switch.

Connecting a fiber cable
To connect:
1.Remove the dust covers from the cable connectors and the port.
2.Aligning the notches on the
cable connectors with the slots of the port, press the cable
connector into the port until it 1 snaps into place.

Installing

If the Link LED does not go on when the network cable is connected to the port, see

2

“Diagnosing with the LEDs” on page 4-3, in chapter 4, “Troubleshooting”.
To disconnect:
Pull the cable connector straight out.
Connecting a copper cable

To connect:

1.Push the copper cable connector into the copper port. Ensure the locking device locks the cable connector into place.

To disconnect:

Pull the cable connector straight out.

When a network cable from an active network device is connected to the port, the port LED for that port should go on. If the port LED

does not go on when the network cable is connected to the port, see “Diagnosing with the LEDs” on page 4-3in chapter 4, “Troubleshooting”.
