2B.SOFT WATERSERVICEANDREGENERATION
AUTOMATIC BYPASS
Duringthebrining,brinerinseandbackwashcycles
ofregeneration,HARDwatergoesthroughthe
softenervalveandtothehousepipes.If afaucetis
opened,hardwateristhereforyourneeds.However,
youshouldnotusehotwater,ifpossible,becausethe
waterheaterwill refillwith hardwater.Thesoftener,
asfactoryprogrammed,regeneratesfrom2:00 AMto
about4:30 or4:45 AM(dependingonthesalt type
setting,page7),atimewhennotmuchwaterisused.
If yougetup earlyinthemorningandyoucan hear
thesoftener regenerating,changetherechargestart-
ingtime.Set therechargetimeto12:00 AMor1:00
AM(page7).Thenregenerationwill startandend
thatmuchearlierandyourwaterheaterwillnotrefill
with hardwaterifahot faucetisopened.
ELECTRONICS
Twomainpartsofthesoftener’selectronics are¡a
WATERMETER,and©aCOMPUTER.
¡WATERMETER—Thewater meterisinthe
softenervalveoutlet.Aswaterflowsthroughthe
meter,itsendselectricpulsestothecomputer.The
computerchangesthepulsestoameasureingallons
of water.
©COMPUTER—Thecomputerispartof the
faceplatetimercircuitboard.It isprogrammedto
know thesoftener’scapacity(howmany grainsof
hardness mineralsit will takeoutof thewaterbefore
aregenerationisneeded).Whenstartingthesoften-
er,page7,yousetit forthegrainspergallon(gpg)
hardness of thewater.
Tofindaregenerationpatternbest foryourneeds,
thecomputeruses:(1) waterusagefromthemeter,
(2)hardness setting,(3)softenercapacity,and(4)
timesincethelastregeneration.Thecomputer
always adjuststhispatterntoyourwaterusing
habits.It workstoward providing youwithsoft
waterforthelongest timeandat themostefficient
saltusage.
Softeningcapacityisusedas hardwatergoes
throughthesoftenerandhardness minerals are
removed.Whenthecomputerdeterminesthatonly
enoughcapacityremainstoprovidesoftwaterup to
thenextregenerationstartingtime(2:00 AM,oras
otherwiseset) it will schedulearegeneration.RE-
CHARGE TONIGHTdisplaysuntil theregeneration
begins.Whentheregenerationbegins,TONIGHT
goesoff and*RECHARGEorRECHARGE TIME
REMAININGflashesduringthe2-1/2or2-3/4hour
regeneration.
*NOTE:
If theCLEAN featureis set toON,acleaning
backwash(CLEANandBkwshorRinse flashesinthe
display,alongwiththeminutesof thecleancycle
remaining),precedestherecharge.
