1D.SANITIZINGTHEWATERSOFTENER
Careistakenat thefactorytokeepyourwater
softenercleanandsanitary.Materialsusedtomake
thesoftenerwillnotinfectorcontaminateyourwater
supply,andwillnotcausebacteriatoform orgrow.
However,duringshipping,storage,installingand
operating,bacteriacouldgetintothesoftener.For
thisreason,sanitizingas followsis suggested¬when
installing.
1.Thefirst timeyousanitizeyoursoftener,besure
todoall stepsintheinstallationmanual,andon
pages 5,6 and7of thismanualfirst.
2.Liftthes altholecoveranduseapailorhosetofill
thesaltstoragetankwithatleast3gallonsof
water.
3.Removethebrinewell cover(FIG. 3)and pour
about3/4ounceofcommon5.25%household
bleach(Clorox,Linco,BoPeep,WhiteSail,Eagle,
etc.)inthesoftenerbrinewell.
4.Press theON/OFF-HOLDbuttonandholdfor3
secondstostartarecharge.Thisfirstrechargedoes
severalthings.
—It drawsthebleachintoandthroughthesoft-
enertosanitizeit.
—It fillsthesalt tanktothewaterlevelneeded.
—It gets all theairoutof theresintank.
—It preparestheresinbed(seepage13) forser-
vice.
NOTES:
Thisrechargetakes about2-1/2or2-3/4hours,
dependingonthesalt typesetting(page7).

Youcansanitize thesoftenerwith orwith-

outsalt inthestoragetank.
