3C.KEEP THE SOFTENERFROMFREEZING
If thesoftenerisinstalledwhereitcouldfreeze
(summercabin,lakehome,etc.),youmustdrainall
waterfromittostop possiblefreezedamage.Todrain
thesoftener

1.Closetheshut-offvalveonthehousemainwater

pipe,nearthewater meterorpressuretank.

2.Openafaucetinthesoft waterpipestovent

pressureinthesoftener.

3.RefertoFIG. 12 onpage20.Movethestemina

singlebypass valveto bypass.Closetheinletand
outletvalveina3-valvebypass s ystem,andopen
thebypass valve.If youwant waterinthehouse
pipes again,reopentheshut-off valveonthe
mainwaterpipe.

4.Unplugthetransformerat thewall outlet.Re-

movethesaltholecoverandthemaincover.Take
off bothdrain hoses.

5.Carefullyremovethelargeholdingclips at the

softenerinletandoutlet (see KeyNo.69,onpage
32).Separatethesoftenerfromthecoppertubes,
orfromthebypass valve.

6.Removethebrinewell coverand disconnect the

brinevalvetubingat thenozzleandventuri
assembly(seepage32).Lift thebrinevalveoutof
thebrinewell.Tipthebrinevalveupsidedownto
drainwater.

closetothedrain.SLOWLYandCAREFULLY,tip
itoveruntil therim restsonthewoodblockwith
theinletandoutletoverthedrain.Donotallow
thesoftenersweight torestontheinletand
outletfittingsortheywill break.

8.Tipthebottomofthesoftenerup afewinchesand

hold until all waterhas drained.Leavethe
softenerlayinglikethisuntilyouarereadytouse
it.Plugtheinletandoutletwithragstokeep dirt,
bugs,etc.out.
