Taking pictures

Taking motion pictures with manual operation [Creative Video Mode]

●●About aperture value

To record motion pictures with a larger depth of field, set the aperture value to a higher number. To record motion pictures with a smaller depth of field, set a lower number.

Setting the aperture value

You can set the aperture values between [1.4] and [8] in 1/3-stop increments.

(Set the aperture ring only to the click-stop positions.)

●●About the shutter speed

To record a sharp motion picture of a fast-moving subject, set a faster shutter speed. To record a motion picture with a trailing effect for a subject’s movements, set a slower shutter speed.

Setting the shutter speed

●●Press the shutter button to start and stop recording motion pictures.

●●Still pictures cannot be recorded while motion pictures are being recorded.

●●The shutter speed that can be set using [Creative Video Mode] is different from the values that can be set using [Program AE], [Aperture-Priority], [Shutter-Priority], and [Manual Exposure] Modes.

●●Although you can change camera settings such as shutter speed and aperture value even when a motion picture recording is in progress, the beeps and camera operation sounds may be recorded in some cases.

●●When you set a faster shutter speed, the monitor image noise may increase due to the higher sensitivity.

●●When you take a picture under a fluorescent lamp, LED, mercury arc lamp or sodium lamp, for example, the coloring and the brightness of the screen may change.
