Your server is equipped with a padlock loop so that the cover cannot be removed when a padlock is installed.

Password protection

To deter unauthorized use of your server, you can use the Setup Utility program to set a password. When you turn on your server, you are prompted to type the password. The server cannot be used until a valid password is typed in. Refer to Chapter 6, “Configuring the server,” on page 49 for more information.

Erasing lost or forgotten passwords (clearing CMOS)

This section provides instructions on how to erase lost or forgotten passwords, such as a user password.

To erase a lost or forgotten password, do the following:

1.Remove all media from the drives and turn off all attached devices and the server. Then, disconnect all power cords from electrical outlets and disconnect all cables that are connected to the server.

2.Remove the server cover. See “Removing the server cover” on page 18.

3.Locate the Clear CMOS /Recovery jumper on the system board. See “System-board internal connectors” on page 14.

4.Remove all parts and disconnect all cables that might prevent your access to the Clear CMOS /Recovery jumper.

Note: If your server has a secondary hard disk drive installed, remove the secondary hard disk drive to access the Clear CMOS /Recovery jumper. See “Replacing the secondary hard disk drive” on page 31.
