Tips on preventing jams

Tips on preventing jams

You can avoid most paper jams by correctly loading paper and specialty media in the printer.

The following hints can help you avoid paper jams:

Do not load wrinkled, creased, or damp paper.

Never mix media types within a tray.

Flex, fan, and straighten paper before you load it.

Do not exceed the maximum stack height.

Push all trays firmly into the printer after loading them.

Make sure the guides in the trays are positioned snug against the paper or specialty media.

Do not remove paper trays while a job is printing. Wait for a Load Paper Manual background light sequence (see “Load media” on page 61) before you remove the tray.

Before loading transparencies, fan the stack to prevent sheets from sticking together.

Do not use envelopes that:

Have excessive curl

Are stuck together

Are damaged in any way

Contain windows, holes, perforations, cutouts, or embossments

Have metal clasps, string ties, or metal folding bars

Have postage stamps attached

Have any exposed adhesive when the flap is in the sealed position

Use only recommended paper. Refer to the Card Stock & Label Guide available on our Lexmark Web site at www.lexmark.com for more information about which paper provides optimum results for your printing environment.

If you need detailed information before purchasing large quantities of customized paper, refer to the Card Stock & Label Guide.
