6. HOW DO I PROGRAMME A RECORDING?

This chapter deals with the ways in which the video recorder can be programmed. It switches itself on automatically, records the desired programme and then switches itself off automatically.

What information does the video recorder need?

For each programmed recording, the video recorder needs the following information:

*the date of the recording

*the programme number of the TV channel

*the time recording is to begin

*the time recording is to end

*PDC on or off

If using “Programming with “VIDEO Plus+”, you need only enter the PlusCode. All of the infor-

mation required by the video recorder is contained in encoded form in this code. With this set, the allocation of “VIDEO Plus+ numbers” takes place automatically.

The video recorder stores all of the aforementioned information in what is known as a TIMER block.

It can do this up to a whole month in advance.

Your video recorder can store up to 6 of these TIMER blocks.

Ensure that the timing of the TIMER blocks does not overlap. The video recorder must first end one TIMER block before recording the next block.

What is "PDC"

(Programme Delivery Control)?

With PDC, the TV station controls when the video recorder is switched on and off. This means that the video recorder switches itself on and off at the right time even if a TV programme you have programmed begins earlier or finishes later than expected – provided that the TV station is actually transmitting PDC.

Not all TV stations transmit a PDC time code.

Notes:

*The first few seconds of a programme intended for recording will be missing if the switch-on command transmitted by the TV station is late.

*You can see if a TV station is transmitting a PDC time code if » PDC « appears in the display on the video recorder.

*If a TV transmission is re-scheduled, » PDC « automatically changes the start time and date information in the TIMER block. This is not a fault in your video recorder.

*PDC only works as it should if television reception is good. If reception conditions are less than optimum, PDC may not function as it should; this does not indicate that your video recorder is not functioning properly.
