ANSWERING CALLS IN PERSON

You can answer a call in person by simply picking up any phone on the line (including one connected to the PHONE jack on your TAD) before the TAD or AFX-300 answers the call.

Note: Because the AFX-300 automatically disables your fax machine when a call is received, you cannot use its built-in telephone (if any) to answer a call in person.

If you answer a call and the call is a voice call, talk as usu-

al.

Note: If you connected a TAD and a data modem to the AFX- 300, and you answered the call on a phone connected to the TAD, you must press any touch-tone digit on the phone before you begin the conversation. If you do not, the AFX-300 auto- matically transfers the call to your data modem after 20 sec- onds.

If you answer the call and hear fax alert tones, simply hang up the phone. The AFX-300 directs the call to your fax ma- chine/fax modem, regardless of whether or not you hang up.

If you answer the call and hear only silence, the call is prob- ably from another data modem (a calling modem is silent until prompted by your modem). To transfer the call to a connected data modem, press 1, #, 2, listen for the modem’s signals, then hang up the phone.
