3.2Overview:SoftwareConfiguration
Hereisan overviewof the tasks forconfiguring the bridge. The referencesareto
the sectionsof thisguidebookthatshowthe detailed installation steps.
3.2.1Setting theEthernetConfiguration
Configurethe bridgesIPaddressand otherEthernetparametersto allowyour
hostapplication torecognizethe bridge.
Configuration WithaBOOTPServer(Section 3.3)
If aBOOTPserverexists,configurethe servertorecognizethe bridge.When the
bridge isinitiallypowered up,itwillattempt for30 secondstoconnect to aBOOTP
server. If the serverisfound, the bridge will automatically configureforthe
Ethernetconnection.Notethatyou will still havetosetup the mappingsbetween
Ethernetand ModbusPlusdevices, oryou can create a host fileforcentralized
mapping whichyou can download.
Configuration WiththeCFGUTILUtility(Section3.4)
If aBOOTPserverisnotavailable, you can usethe internalCFGUTIL programto
configurethebridge.Connectakeyboard and VGAmonitortothe bridge,start the
utility, anduseit tosetup the bridgesIPand gatewayaddresses, and subnetwork
mask.
3.2.2Setting theModbusPlus and TCP/IPAddress Mapping
Setup yourbridgesmappingtablestocontrolthe flowof trafficthrough the bridge.
Yourmappingsdefinethe routing destinationsformessagesreceived bythe
bridge on one networkand passed through it to destinationson the othernetwork.
Setting theMapping:TCP/IPtoModbusPlus(Sections 3.5 and 3.6)
Messagesreceived bythe bridge overTCP/IPcontainaDestination Index
address byteinthe range 1 ... 249 decimal.Thisbytecorrespondstothe
dest_idx fieldinModbusApplication Protocolcommandsissued inModicon
panelsoftwaresuchasConceptand Modsoft. The bridge mapsthisbyteto oneof
249 possibleModbusPlusnode destinations.Youdefine the ModbusPlusnode
address to be associated with eachDestination Indexbytevalue.
Setting theMapping:ModbusPlusto TCP/IP(Sections 3.7 and 3.8)
Messagesreceived bythe bridge overModbusPlus containarouting byteinthe
range 1 ... 255 decimal(the dest_idx field).The bridge mapsthisbyteto one of
255 IPdestinations.Youdefine the IPaddress to be associated with each
ModbusPlusrouting bytevalue.
