6.2Logging theBridgesActivity
Beforerunning diagnostics you can buildalog of the communication activity
performed bythe bridge.This can helpyou to determine the kind ofdiagnostics
you maywant torun.
Youcan set the bridge tolog all trafficinitiated on eitheritsEthernetnetworkor
ModbusPlusnetwork.Youcan alsosetit tolog errorsonly.
HowLogging Works
Logging isturned on and offthrough a keyboard and monitorconnected tothe
bridge.The bridge providesfivelogging modes. It writesthe log resultswith
date/timestamping toafileBRIDGE.LOG,aswell astothe monitor.
The BRIDGE.LOG fileis self--wrappingand containsenough spaceforseveral
hundred linesoflogging.
Notethatlogging will slowthe throughputofanyapplication running inthe bridge.
Particularlythe use ofMode C(TCP/IPTickLogging)will generateconstant
logging messages.
Setup
If akeyboard and monitorare notconnected tothe bridge,remove powertothe
bridge and connect themtothe bridgespanel.Restorepowertothe bridge.
Toinvokelogging,the bridge application mustbe running. If the bridge displays its
CFGUTILmenu on startup,press Escape toclosethe menu.This should display
the bridgesC:\>prompt. EnterGATELOOPtostart the bridge.
Starting Logging
Withthe bridge running, typealetter:A,B,C,D,orE(uppercaseletter) toselect
alogging mode.
The logging modesare:
AChannelLogging.
BTCP/IP ErrorLogging.
CTCP/IPTickLogging.
DRoutine Logging.
ERoutine ErrorLogging.
Stopping Logging
Tostoplogging typealetter:a,b,c,d,ore(lowercaseletter)toturn off the
selected logging mode.Typethe letterftoturn off all logging.
