Figure2-3) on the transmissiontop
cover.
NOTE:The curved handlebarheight

Forelectric start units, the bracket is loos-
enedand moved to one side.
5. Looselyattach the handlebars to the
mounting tabs with two 3/8-16x 1"
screws(heads of screws goto inside of
tabs),3/8" flatwashers and 3/8"-16 lock
nuts (O,Figure 2-4).

6. Onelectric start units,reattachthe
heightadjustment bracket (A, Figure2-2).
Tighten both screws securely. Makesure
the handlebarcross-brace (B, Figure2-3)
is under the bracket.
7. Movethe handlebars up or down to
align the threadedhole in the cross-brace
with one of thefour slots inthecurved
heightadjustment bracket. Placethe
keyedwasher (E,Figure 2-3) onthe
flangehead height adjustment screw(F)
with the raised keys (edges)of the
washerfacing down.
8. Threadthe heightadjustment screw
(F,Figure 2-3) intothe hole in the handle-
barcross-brace, making sure that the
raisedkeys on the washer fit intothe slot
onthe heightadjustmentbracket.
Tightenthe heightadjustmentscrew
securely. Next, securely tighten the two
screwsand nuts in the ends of the han-
dlebar(M, Figure2-3).
9. Toremove the tiller from itsshipping
platform,first carefullyunwrap the wheel
gearcable (with attached lever- see
Figure2-5) from aroundthe chassis.
Movethe Wheel Gear Lever(G) to the
DISENGAGEposition--this allows the
wheelsto rotatefreely. Usethehandle-

barsto roll thetiller off the platform.
NOTE:The WheelGearLever will be
installedlater in thisprocedure.
IMPORTANT:Use the DISENGAGEposi-
tion only when the engineis notrunning.
Beforestarting the engine, theWheel Gear
Levermust beplacedin the ENGAGE
position (seeSection 3 fordetails).
STEP3: ATTACH REVERSE
CLUTCHCONTROL CABLE
1. Carefullyunwrap the reverseclutch
control cable(H, Figure 2-6) from its
shipping position and route it upalong
the insideedge ofthe left sidehandlebar.
A knoband largehexnut (I)is installed
onthe cable.

2. Insertthe cable into the slot in the
control panel and fit the threadedassem-
blyinto thehole in the slot (seeFigure2-
6). Besurethat theflat side of the
threadedassembly is aligned with theflat
sideof the hole. Slidethe hex nut (I) up
thecable and tighten itsecurely.
3. Testthe function of the reverse clutch
control cable by pulling the knob out and
releasingit. Theknob should return to its
neutralposition against the tapered
bushing. Ifit doesn't, contactyour local
dealeror thefactory for technical
assistance.
STEP4: ATTACHFORWARD
CLUTCH CONTROLCABLE
1. Removeanyfasteners (rubber bands,
tape,etc.) that may securetheForward
ClutchControl levers (J, Figure2-7)to the
handlebar. I

2. Theforward clutch control cable(with
attachedspring) ishanging loosely near
theright-side wheel. Beingcareful not to
kink or stretch the cable, insertthe z-con-
nector (L, Figure 2-8 - endof the spring)
intothe hole at the end of the forward
clutchcontrol linkage(K, Figure 2-7).

3. Attachthe cable adjuster (A, Figure
2-9) to the bracket on the right-side han-
dlebar. Usetwo 1/2" wrenchesto loosen
thetwo jamnuts (B)just enough to slide
thecable adjuster onto the bracket. Then
handtighten the jam nuts.
