INTRODUCTION
Carefullyfollow theseassembly steps to
correctly prepareyour tiller for use. It is
recommendedthat you readthis Section
in its entirety beforebeginning assembly.

INSPECTUNIT

Inspectthe unit andcarton for damage
immediatelyafter delivery. Contact the
carrier (trucking company) if you find or
suspectdamage. Inform them of the
damageand request instructions forfiling
aclaim. To protectyour rights, put your
claim in writing and mail a copy to the
carrier within 15days after the unit has
beendelivered. Contact usat thefactory if
youneed assistance in this matter.
UNPACKINGAND ASSEMBLY
INSTRUCTIONS
STEP1: UNPACKING INSTRUCTIONS
1. Removeanycardboard inserts and
packagingmaterial from thecarton.
Removeany staplesfrom the bottom of
thecarton and remove the carton.
2. Cutthe large,plastic tie strap that
securesthe transmission tube to theship-
ping pallet. Leavethe handlebarson top
ofthe tiller toavoid damaging any cables.
3. Abag with loose hardwareis inside
theliterature envelope. Checkthe con-
tentsagainst the following list and Figure
2-1. Contactyour local dealer or the
factory if any items aremissing or
damaged.
NOTE:For electric start units, a second
hardwarebag is locatednear the battery.
4. Thetiller isheavy. You should not
attempt to remove it from the shipping
platform until instructed to do so inthese
"Assembly" steps.

and quantity required.
* Adjustable wrenches may be used.
IMPORTANT:Motor oil must be added to
theengine crankcase beforethe engine is
started. Followthe instructions in this
"Assembly" Section and in the separate
EngineOwner's Manual.
NOTE:LEFTandRIGHTsides of thetiller
areas viewedfrom the operator's posi-
tion behindthe handlebars.
STEP2: ATTACHHANDLEBARS
1. Onelectric start units, remove one
screw and Iockwasherfrom thecurved

heightadjustment bracket (A, Figure2-2),
loosenthesecond screw, and swing the
bracketto oneside.
2. Cut the large, plastic cable ties that
securethe handlebarends to the handle-
barmounting tabson thetransmission
top cover.
3. Gently lift handlebar(do not over-
stretchattached cable) and place handle-
barcross-brace (B, Figure 2-3) infront of
curved height adjustment bracket (C).
