REVERSECLUTCHCONTROL
TheReverseClutch Control (C, Figure
3-1) controls the engagementof reverse
driveto thewheels and tines. The revers-
ingfeature is usedfor maneuveringthe
tiller only- neverengage the tines in
thegroundwhile goingin the reverse
direction.
• Use extreme cautionwhen reversing
or pulling the machine towards you.
Lookbehindto avoidobstacles.
• Never attempttotill in reverse.
Failure to follow this warning could
result in personal injury or property
damage.
ToOperatethe ReverseClutchControl:
1. Putthe Wheel GearLever in the
ENGAGEposition (seethe "WARNING"
statementon previous page).
2. Stopall tiller motion by releasingthe
ForwardClutch Control levers.
3. Lift up the handlebarsuntil the tines
clearthe ground, look behind you to avoid
anyobstacles, and then pull the Reverse
ClutchControl knob out. Thetines and
wheelswill rotatein areversedirection.
4. ReleasetheReverseClutch Control
knobto disengage(stop) the wheels and
tines. All reverse motion will stop (the
enginewill continueto run).
• Do not attempt to till too deeply too
quickly. Gradually work down to
deepertilling depths.
• Place the DepthRegulatorLever in the
"travel" position before starting the
engine. This position prevents the
tines from touching the ground until
youare readyto begintilling.
Failure to follow this warning could
result in personal injury or property
damage.

DEPTHREGULATOR

TheDepth Regulator lever (D, Figure 3-2)
controlsthe tilling depth ofthetines. Pull
thelever straight backand slide it upor
downto engage the notched height set-
tings.
Figure3-2: Depth RegulatorLever,
Thehighest notch (leverall the way
down)raises the tines approximately
1-1/2inches off the ground. This "travel"
positionallows thetiller to be moved
without the tines digging into the ground.
Movingthe lever up increasesthe tilling
depth. The lowest notch allowsa tilling
depthof approximately six to eight
inches,depending on soil conditions.
Forbestresults, always begintilling at
avery shallowdepth settingand gradu-
allyincreasethe tilling depth. Complete
detailson using the Depth Regulatorare
found in the "Operation" Sectionof this
manual.
HANDLEBARHEIGHT ADJUSTMENT
Thehandlebar height is adjustableto four
differentsettings. Set the handlebar
heightto a comfortable setting, but keep
in mind that the handlebarswill be lower
whenthe tines are engagedin the soil.
ToAdjustthe HandlebarHeight:

1. Stopthe engine, wait for all parts to
stopmoving andthen disconnect the
sparkplug wire. Removethe ignition key
onelectric start models.
2. Loosenthe two screws at the lower
endsof the handlebar.
3. Loosenthe height adjustment screw
(E,Figure 3-3) and pull the keyedwasher
(F)free of the slots inthe curved height
adjustment bracket.
4. Movethe handlebarsto the newslot
settingand insertthe raisedkeys on the
keyedwasher into the slot. Tighten the
heightadjustment screw securely.
5. Retightenthe two screws at the ends
ofthe handlebar.

ENGINECONTROLS

Referto the engine manufacturer'sEngine
Owner'sManual (included inthe tiller lit-
eraturepackage)to identify the controls
onyour engine. The following two con-
trols areused when stopping or starting
theengine.
IMPORTANT:The control for stopping
therecoil startengine is locatedon the
engine.
ENGINETHROTTLE CONTROL LEVER
TheEngineThrottleControl Lever(located
on engine--seeFigure4-1) is used to reg-
ulatethe enginespeed. Onthe recoil start
modelonly, it is also used to stop the
engine(on the electricstart model,the
electricstart keyswitch is used to stop the
engine). The throttle settingsare shown
below.
IMPORTANT:See"Starting andStopping
theEngine" in the "Operation" Sectionfor
detailedengine starting and stopping
instructions.
,_ FAST- Usefor most tilling and
cultivating projects.
,_b_ SLOW- Use when idling engine or
whenslower tilling and cultivating
speedsare needed.
_STOP -Stops theengine (on
recoilstart models only).
ELECTRICSTART KEYSWITCH
(MODEL E666M)
Theignition keyswitch on the electric start
modelis usedto start andstop the
engine. The keyswitch settings are
describedbelow.
IMPORTANT:See"Starting andStopping
theEngine" in the "Operation" Sectionfor
detailedinstructions.
OFF -Stopsengine.
RUN- After starting, key returns to run
position.
START- Startsengine. Releasekey when
enginestarts (avoidcranking engine for
longerthan 15 seconds for eachattempt)
