Sefore inspecting, cleaning or servicing the machine, shut off engine, wait for all movingparts to
come to a complete stop, disconnect spark plug wire and move wire away from spark plug.
Removethe key from the keyswitchonunits so equipped.

ENGINEOILSERVICE

Checktheengine oil levelbeforestarting
theengine each day and check it after
each5 hours of continuous operation.
Runningthe enginewhen itis low on oil
will quickly ruinthe engine.
It is recommended that you change the
motor oil after every 10 hours ofopera-
tion and even soonerwhen operatingin
extremelydirty or dusty conditions. Refer
tothe separateEngineOwner's Manual
for detailedservice instructions.
A.To Checkthe EngineOil Level:
1. Movethe tiller to a levelarea and shut
offthe engine.
2. Levelthe engine by moving the Depth
RegulatorLever up or down asneeded.
3. Cleanthe areaaround the oil dipstick
oroil fill tube to prevent dirt from falling
intothe crankcase.
4. On engineswith anoil fill tube, remove
thefiller cap,add oil (ifrequired) untilit
reachesthetop ofthe tube and reinstall
thefiller cap.
5. Onengineswith adipstick, removeit,
wipeit clean,and reinstall it finger-tight.
Removethe dipstick andcheck the
reading. Add oil (if required) to bringthe
levelto theFULLmark. Do not overfill.
B.To Changethe EngineOil:
Changethe engine oil as instructed inthe
separateEngineOwner's Manual.

AIR CLEANERSERVICE

Theengineair cleanerfilters dirt and dust
out of the air beforeit enters the carbure-
tor. Operatingthe engine with a dirty,
cloggedair filter cancause poor perfor-
manceand damageto theengine. Never
operatethe enginewithout theair cleaner
installed. Inspectand service the air
cleanermore often ifoperating in very
dusty or dirty conditions.
Servicethe air cleaner as instructed in the
separateEngineOwner's Manual.
SPARKPLUGSERVICE
Inspectand clean or replacethe spark
plug after every 100 operating hours or
annually. Clean the plugand set the gap
asdescribed in theseparateEngine
Owner'sManual.
Insome areas, locallaw requires using
resistor spark plugs to suppressignition
signals. If the engine was originally
equippedwith aresistor sparkplug, use
thesame type for replacement.
SPARK ARRESTER SCREEN
SERVICE
Ifthe enginemuffler is equippedwith a
sparkarrester screen, remove and clean it
accordingto thetime intervals and
instructions in the separateEngine
Owner'sManual.

ENGINECLEANING

Theengine must be kept clean to assure
smooth operation and to prevent damage
from overheating. Referto the separate
EngineOwner's Manualfor specific repair
andcleaning instructions. All inspections
andservices must bedonewith the
engineshut offand cool to thetouch.

CARBURETOR/GOVERNOR

CONTROLADJUSTMENTS

Operators shall not tamper with the
engine governor settings on the
machine; the governor controls the
maximum safe operating speed to
protectthe engineand all moving parts
from damage caused by overspeed.
Authorizedservice shall be soughtif a
problemexists.
Thecarburetor was adjusted at the
factoryfor best operatingspeed. Referto
theseparate EngineOwner's Manual for
anyadjustment information or see your
authorizedengine service dealer.
Thegovernor controls themaximum safe
operatingspeed and protects the engine
andall moving parts from damagecaused
byoverspeeding. Donot tamperwith the
enginegovernor settings. Seekautho-
rizedservice if a problem exists.
THROTTLE CONTROL ADJUSTMENT
Ifthe engine does not respond to various
throttle leversettings, referto the sepa-
rateEngine Owner's Manualfor service
information or contactyour local autho-
rizedengine servicedealer.
