19.1.1.2 Preparing for use of SNMP

To use the SNMP, the SNMP related parameters for the Xerox 4500 PS TR must be defined using one of the supported configuration tools (see chapter 3).

PS name

Specifies the attached PrintServer.

Contact name:

Specifies the contact person for this managed node.

System location:

Specifies the physical location of this node.

When the parameters have been defined, the operations may be monitored by the system administrator using any SNMP browser.

In the example below we have chosen the NetGuardian as the browser.

This NetGuardian browser is available on the BBS.

The NetGuardian browser runs in Windows 3.1 environment.

19.1.1.3 Using the NetGuardian browser

To install the NetGuardian, change your current drive to where you have placed the netg2b3.zip.

Then type:

PKUNZIP -d {source path\netg2b3.zip} {destination path }

You have now created a directory containing the NetGuardian program. Run the browse from the Windows Program Manager.
