The overall impact of this bill requires Xerox to label its owner's manual AND product as a means to inform the end user the presence of mercury. All mercury-added products sold after July 1, 2007 must be labeled under the provisions of the new law and in accordance with a labeling plan approved by the State of Vermont.

The scope of this legislation impacts all products containing mercury lamps* (removable / non-removable); such as scanner lamps used for both backlighting and non-backlighting purposes. Based upon Xerox approved Certified Labeling Plan, the following language must be included in the owner's manual or addendum to the owner's manual:

"Xerox operates a worldwide equipment takeback and reuse/recycle program. Contact your Xerox sales representative (1-800-ASK-XEROX) to determine whether this Xerox product is part of the program. For more information about Xerox environmental programs, visit www.xerox.com/ environment.
